But photographing an elopement here doesn’t just mean taking the classic shot with the Tre Cime in the background.
What makes this place so special is the variety of landscapes that can be found in a relatively small area.
Mountain trails, enormous rock faces, open valleys, and ever-changing perspectives allow you to create a complete photographic story without having to force anything.
With Serena and Stefano, the goal was to combine the grandeur of the Dolomites with something much more personal.
Some photographs are wide and cinematic, with the couple dwarfed by the surrounding mountains. Others are much closer, more candid, and intimate.

When I photograph an elopement at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, I don’t want every image to look like a postcard.
Naturally, we are in one of the most spectacular locations in the Dolomites, and the landscape deserves to play a prominent role in the photographs.
But an elopement is still about two people.
This is why I alternate large, ambient portraits with closer-up photographs, movement, and spontaneous interactions.
Instead of creating a long sequence of rigid poses, I prefer to leave the couple the space to walk, talk, laugh and really experience the place.
The result is a gallery that tells not only where the elopement took place, but also what it felt like to be there.
For Serena and Stefano, the mountains became the backdrop for a relaxed and adventurous couple session, which gradually changed atmosphere as we approached sunset.
From the Tre Cime di Lavaredo to the Cadini di Misurina
One of the most spectacular combinations for an elopement in the Dolomites in this area is between the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the nearby Cadini di Misurina.
Although the two locations are close to each other, visually they are completely different.
The Three Peaks are monumental and immediately recognizable.
The Cadini di Misurina, on the other hand, have a wilder atmosphere.
Their jagged ridges create an almost unreal landscape, especially when a couple is photographed in front of these enormous rock formations.
This difference makes combining the two locations particularly interesting from a photographic point of view.
Instead of getting hundreds of photographs with the same setting, Serena and Stefano were able to have two completely different chapters of their story within the same experience.
And for the final part of the session we headed to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the area.

Reaching the Cadini di Misurina viewpoint at sunset completely changes the experience.
As the sun sinks, the landscape becomes more dramatic. The light softens, the shadows lengthen, and the enormous rock formations of the Cadini begin to visually separate into different levels.
It was the perfect place to conclude Serena and Stefano’s photographic story.
Here I wanted the images to have a cinematic and powerful character, while always maintaining their connection at the heart of each photograph.
Instead of trying to counteract the grandeur of the landscape, I used it.
The mountains have become huge.
Serena and Stefano are smaller in the frame.
And it is precisely this contrast that created some of my favorite photographs of the entire session.
There is something special about standing in front of such an immense landscape with the person you love.
For me, this is exactly what an elopement at Cadini di Misurina should convey: adventure, intimacy, and the feeling of being together in an extraordinary place.
Why choose sunset for an elopement in the Dolomites?
Light can completely transform the Dolomites.
During the central hours of the day, the light in the mountains can be strong and direct. As sunset approaches, everything becomes progressively softer and more evocative.
From a photographic point of view, the last hours of the day allow you to create completely different atmospheres during the same session.
We can start with brighter, more spontaneous photographs as we walk through the landscape and gradually move to more intimate, dramatic images as we get closer to sunset.
Of course, the weather in the mountains can change very quickly and no sunset can be guaranteed.
But this unpredictability is also part of the experience of photographing an elopement in the Dolomites.
Clouds, fog, wind, or sudden openings in the sky can create photographs that are impossible to plan ahead.
The goal is not to reproduce a pre-established image.
It’s working with what the mountain offers us that day.

For this reason, I plan my sessions in the Dolomites based on the light and not simply by choosing a start time.
For a sunset session, the itinerary can be built backwards starting from the moment we want to reach the final location.
This way we have enough time to explore, photograph in different environments and move around without turning the experience into a race from one viewpoint to another.
An elopement must remain first and foremost an experience.
Not a list of photographs to take.

In the warmer months, longer days allow for more time to explore and make sunset sessions especially interesting.
However, the actual accessibility of mountain paths and roads depends on the season and current conditions.
For this reason, when I organize an elopement in the Dolomites, I always recommend building the photographic timeline on the specific date instead of using the same itinerary for each couple.
The perfect timeline in June may be completely different from the ideal one later in the season.
The goal always remains the same: finding the best possible balance between light, location, and experience.
