There are places that seem created specifically to turn an important moment into an unforgettable memory. Passo delle Erbe, in the Dolomites, is certainly one of them.
Luca and Caterina come from Tuscany and had a very simple wish: to take something with them that truly captured this moment in their lives.
To do so, they chose the Dolomites and one of the landscapes I love photographing most: Passo Erbe, facing the unmistakable Sass de Putia.
No constructed sets. No need to transform the mountain into something it is not.
Just the two of them, boundless meadows, rocks, wind, light that kept shifting, and that feeling of being miles away from everything for a few hours.

Photographing a wedding at Passo Erbe means, above all, giving space to the landscape.
Sass de Putia completely dominates this part of the Dolomites and constantly changes its appearance throughout the day. You need only move a few meters, wait for a cloud to pass over the sun, or simply shift your vantage point to find a completely different scene before you.
And that is precisely what I was looking for in Luca and Caterina’s story.
I didn’t just want to take beautiful photos in the mountains. I wanted them to be able to look at these images in ten or twenty years and remember what it was like to be there together.
The wind.
The light.
Walks in the meadows.
Laughter between one photograph and the next.
And above all, that sense of freedom that only certain places can offer.

Luca and Caterina chose to travel from Tuscany to the Dolomites to create a unique memory—something that felt truly their own.
Passo delle Erbe was the perfect setting.
During the shoot, we let the landscape and the spontaneous interactions between them guide the photographs.
My approach to telling the story of a wedding always starts here: observing before intervening.
I don’t like turning a couple into models, and I’m not looking for an endless sequence of poses. I prefer to provide direction when needed and then wait for what happens in between.
A movement.
A glance.
A laugh that breaks a more serious moment.
A hug that lasts a few seconds longer.
It is often precisely these small moments that become the most important photographs.
Photographing a wedding in front of Sass de Putia
Sass de Putia is one of those places that offers endless photographic possibilities.
You can let the mountain fill the entire frame, making the couple appear tiny against the grandeur of the Dolomites, or move closer and transform that same landscape into a soft, subtle backdrop.
During Luca and Caterina’s wedding, I looked for both things.
On the one hand, very wide shots in which the landscape reveals where we are.
On the other hand, there are more intimate photographs, where the Dolomites almost disappear and only the two of them remain.
It is a balance I often seek in my wedding stories: showing an extraordinary location without letting the place become more important than the people I am photographing.
Because a photograph might feature one of the most beautiful mountains in the world in the background, but if it tells no story about the couple, it remains nothing more than a pretty postcard.
The light of the Dolomites changes everything.
One of the things I love most about photographing in the mountains is the unpredictability.
The light can change completely in a very short time.
And that is exactly what happened with Luca and Caterina, too.
Brighter moments alternated with softer, more dramatic light, constantly shifting the colors, atmosphere, and perception of the landscape.
Instead of trying to fight these changes, I prefer to use them.
To me, a wedding story doesn’t necessarily have to consist of a hundred identical photographs. It can be delicate one moment, cinematic the next, and fun just a few minutes later.
Coherence does not come from every photograph having the same lighting.
It comes from the same eye that observes and tells the story.

Their expressions.
Lightness.
The quietest moments.
And everything that happened between one photograph and the next.
Because when they look back at these images, my goal isn’t for them to simply think:
“What an incredible place.”
I would like them to think:
“That’s exactly what we were like.”
